DiREC - participation at #TRA2022

Transport Research Arena

Bahman Madadi represented the DiREC project and Delft University of Technology during the Transport Research Arena (TRA) conference in Lisbon and participate in the PEB meeting with Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) members.

We demonstrated our ideas for a framework that assesses NRAs readiness to support connected and automated driving applications and develop a road map for their future decisions to upgrade their physical and digital infrastructure.

There were many interesting discussions but a key takeaway for me was that future-proofing is essential; as NRAs want to spend their limited budget efficiently and focus on early use cases that bring the most benefits, it is crucial to keep an eye on the future and think about enablers that contribute to more use cases and applications. I believe this principle applies to most decisions regarding the transport system. Each specific application should be evaluated based on its place within the whole transport system and how it contributes to sustainable and seamless multimodal mobility for all.

Thanks to Gonçalo Homem de Almeida Rodriguez Correia, Haneen Farah and Ianto Guy for their support during the conference and all our DiREC project partners: Stuart Greenshields, John McCarthy, PhD, Risto Öörni, Ary p. Silvano, Adewole Adesiyun.
